Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is an alpha-hydroxy acid (glycolic acid) that is applied to the face to help slough off dead skin.

The TCA peel ( Trichloroacetic Acid ) is a medium peel, and is a very popular treatment for skin of all colors and imperfections. TCA peels can vary in strength from 10% to 50% depending on the skin tone, imperfections, wrinkles, etc., that are in need of improving.

Intra Dermal Injection

Intradermal injections are injections given to a patient in which the goal is to empty the contents of the syringe between the layers of the skin.

This is a painful procedure and is used only with small amounts of solution. The nurse should ensure that the needle is inserted into the epidermis, not subcutaneously, as absorption would be reduced.This injection is often used for conducting skin allergy tests and testing for antibody formation.

Wood's Lamp Examination

A Wood's lamp examination is a test that uses ultraviolet light to closely look at the skin.

Several skin diseases/challenges such as vitiligo, acne and a host of others cause the skin (or the fluids on the skin) to fluoresce.The use of a Wood’s lamp does not require great skill. However, some practical points should be kept in mind to avoid misinterpretation of results.
